Phil Lawson – The Magic Researcher

The Magic Researcher.

My mission as a magic researcher is simple. It’s to go back over the history of a Magic effect or person within the magic world and provide a richer record for future generations. I enjoy researching the history of an effect and how it came into being and then then how it develops over the years. I also like to find some unusual facts or unknown stories along the way. As part of my research I want to bring to the fore some lesser known figures in magic and unearth some facts. I’ll add my own thoughts along the way.

Why do this?

  • It will enrich the history of magic and record some of the key junctures in magic while there is still time to ask the people that were around at the time.
  • I learn a lot in the process.
  • I can clear up some common misconceptions along the way.
  • I hope it will help future (and existing magicians) appreciate the history of an effect.
  • I can bring to life some of the lesser known figures in magic.

With all my articles I will aim to be as accurate as possible and will where needed contact any names mentioned to get their viewpoints prior to publishing. Where I have highlighted inaccurate or a lack of crediting it is not to put the publisher/magician in a bad light, it is simply to make it clearer for the magician tracing the lineage in the future. Mistakes happen, and i’m sure i’ll make some along the way which I will be happy to correct.

As for me, I’ve been an amateur magician for over 20 years and my specialty is card magic. I hope you enjoy reading the research and please get in touch if there is something you want me to delve into!
